David Hernandez
Oboe Coach
As a flute major under Sandy Kipp-Iles pursuing his Bachelors in Music Education, David never imagined the possibility of switching to another instrument. But after a fateful intro-to-woodwinds course, he met his new instrumental love, the oboe. After finishing up his Bachelor’s degree still on flute, he quickly shifted gears and soared to new heights on a new instrument. Within 2 years he became principal oboist of the CSUN Wind Symphony as well as the Co-Principal Oboe of the CSUN Wind Ensemble and the CSUN Symphony Orchestra, and even as the Principal oboe of the Valley Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a result of his diligent work on a new instrument, he took an offer to pursue his Master’s Degree in Oboe Performance at the University of Redlands under the tutelage of Francisco Castillo where he has also maintained the position of Principal Oboe in both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. David has appeared in many ensembles throughout Southern California such as the Redlands Community Orchestra, Coachella Valley Symphony, Temecula Valley Symphony, Southland Symphony, and Desert Winds Freedom Band and even guest soloist alongside the Modern Men’s Choir in Palm Springs. David has also been a winner for the Valley Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2017. |
